Letters to my friend
"It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it."
Seneca
I like to believe that, from time to time, I say something philosophical too, usually to the people closest to me. Still, saying something genuinely wise and to the point about a philosophical question is a high branch to reach for, so for now I will quiet my mind by commenting on and bringing together some thoughts from philosophy.
Today, this word is often unfairly reduced to a pejorative expression, like don’t philosophize, as if it were something unnecessary or detached from real life. And yet, within philosophy, some of the most beautiful and enduring thoughts about human beings, the world, knowledge, morality, freedom and meaning have taken shape.
In the past, philosophy was the starting point of almost everything. Many sciences gradually developed from it and even today its importance has not disappeared. On the contrary, the contemporary world, including discussions on artificial intelligence, language, thinking, and the limits of human knowledge, still returns to questions that philosophy opened long ago. Sometimes I get the feeling that I do not want to go through life without understanding at least a small part of what great minds over the past two thousand years and more have dedicated their time and thought to. Things they reflected on seriously, while we today often pass them by in the rush of everyday life.
That is why this section brings together short reflections on different philosophical concepts, ideas and above all philosophers. Here, I write in a simple and clear way about ideas I find important and worth thinking about.
